Find Out More About Boilers
Hydronic Boilers – Now that’s a pretty techie sounding name!? It is in fact what you call the device that heats the water in a home with hot water heat or “hydronic heating” if you prefer. The terms boiler furnaces, boiler heating systems, boiler furnaces, boilers gas, water boilers or just plain old “boiler” are all applicable and relative terms to the process. The residential boiler system differs from commercial boiler heating primarily in size. The bigger the building, the bigger the heating boiler!
Boiler heat from the perspective of Canada Furnace
Boiler heat from the perspective of Canada Furnace relates to the residential variety and one might be surprised at just how many homes within the BC lower mainland area utilize a gas water boiler for heat.
Furnace or boiler, both heating systems are represented by a wide variety of manufacturers. At Canada Furnace we are always on the lookout for products and boiler manufacturers that offer the best quality at a price point that represents lasting value and by a firm that backs up their product line with more than just words. In terms of boiler sales, we currently offer boiler products or repairs in Langley from several different boiler companies, with each model considered for its performance in a given application. Some of the most popular names we use to replace boilers are:
Lochinvar: These are “high end” high efficient boilers designed for use in both commercial and residential applications.
Navien Combi: The Combi is one of a number of products from Navien and has the unique characteristic of replacing both the heating boiler and the hot water tank. Its portable size and high efficiency boiler status make it our top seller in this segment.
Laars Mini Therm: This budget minded mid efficiency unit includes a spark ignition to aid in reducing gas consumption.
Laars Neotherm: This 95% efficiency boiler is a very high quality unit that can be easily adapted to indirect fired heating and is a big seller.
Superhot: This is a terrific value mid efficiency unit with very heavy duty heat exchangers, available with spark ignition and manufactured by a local company.
Viessmann – Vito100: This is a space saving high efficiency boiler representing terrific value and available for government rebate programs.
The above represent a sample of our more popular selling units, but we have access to a wide variety of products from a number of high quality manufacturers.
High Efficiency Boilers
So we’ve determined that there are both high efficiency boilers and those stated as mid efficiency units – what’s up with that? Unlike gas forced air furnaces, going across the board with high efficiency products isn’t as simple with Hydronic heating and governments have recognized that fact. It boils down to (pun absolutely intentional) costs borne out of technicality and more often it just depends on the application, which in the case of Hydronic heat can be widely varied. When you go to replace a boiler it is very wise to know that your vendor/installer has done all of his homework (and done it well) about your specific application. To that end, Canada Furnace employs the best “boiler guys” in this area and we’re not just blowing off steam (stop with the puns already)!
We have the experience to get it right
If you’re at the stage where it looks like it is “replacing boiler time”, Canada Furnace can offer not only great value products, highly competitive pricing and outstanding service, but even more importantly than all of that – “we know what we’re doing and we have the experience to get it right”! One call to get things started and you will be in great hands. The consultant who will come out to your home will be a person with extensive experience in the realm of boilers and hot water heat (Hydronic heating if you want to sound oh so smart). They will do a painstakingly thorough inspection of your current system in order to be able to recommend the best course of action and any possible alternatives for your future heating requirements. At that point the discussion will also involve your needs, wants and concerns, whether it relates to product, efficiency, budgetary concerns or whatever else may be a priority to you. All of these items need to be effectively dealt with before it makes sense for anyone to move forward. It may take a little extra time, but when the decision is made, you will have the peace of mind that surprises will be minimized if not outright eliminated. Canada Furnace also takes care of any paperwork / administration with regard to rebate programs (government or otherwise) warranty applications, registrations, permits etc.
Once a decision has been made, Canada Furnace will organize the best Installation date, assign a team and assemble all of the equipment for your project. Our team will show up on time (and they don’t waste that precious commodity either) complete the project as efficiently as possible, do a thorough (and we mean thorough) cleanup, walk you through every step of the new systems operation and leave you to enjoy the comfort provided by the new best boiler for your home.
Boiler furnace repair
Whether boiler or furnace it isn’t always necessary to order up a replacement boiler just because your current one it isn’t operating properly. Canada Furnaces team of boiler technicians are just as good at repairing boilers as they are at replacing them. Like all mechanical devices and especially those that operate in a high heat environment, water boilers require servicing on a regular basis to prevent breakdowns and maintain proper efficiency. There are two distinct but complimentary aspects of servicing a boiler. The first is of course an annual service (preventative maintenance) which by its very nature is done to reduce the possibility of the second which is of course a service call due to a breakdown. Canada Furnace has you covered on both fronts. We obviously advocate the preventative maintenance approach, buts let’s face it, equipment does on occasion go haywire. When it does, our team will work as quickly as possible to get your system up and running again. We ensure that all of our service vans are well stocked with common and regularly used parts on a daily basis, our teams work quickly, efficiently and most importantly will provide you with a written detailed quotation once the cause of failure has been determined. Our crews do everything in their power to get the job done correctly the first time to eliminate any possibility of a callback (we hate those as much as you do, perhaps even more). Boiler furnace repair is something we take very seriously – we know it’s not fun to be without heat – particularly when it’s cold outside!
Regular service regimen
Of course it’s not always as simple as just replacing or servicing a boiler. Hydronic systems are made up of a variety of sub systems which depending on the original application may require upgrading along the way. Much like the ductwork carries the warmed air through the home in the case of a forced air furnace heating system, the hot water from a boiler is pumped through the home in a series of pipes and manifolds. These sub-assemblies (including the pump(s)) also require service and unfortunately sometimes replacement depending upon circumstances. Again, a regular service regimen is the best course of action to prevent costly breakdowns in the future.
Keeping repair costs low
Servicing a boiler on a regular basis should never represent a large cost and will inevitably save money in the long run. Having said that, breakdowns DO happen and when they do, cost of repair can be a daunting issue when considering ones budgetary constraints. Canada Furnace, as a true family company is very well aware that “money doesn’t grow on trees” (that saying may be even older than I am)! To that end, we take both care and pride in helping our customers to keep repair costs as low as possible. One reason we represent the manufacturers and suppliers that we do is a shared commitment with them in the realization that keeping costs as reasonable as possible ultimately benefits everyone in the chain.
What is a condenser boiler?
What is a condenser boiler? A condensing boiler is another approach to gaining greater efficiency with respect to the amount of fuel used to create a given amount of heat. A standard “old school” boiler burns fuel and the hot gasses created from that process are passed through a heat exchanger and into the water side of the system (which is then pumped and distributed through the pipes which run through the home). One of the gases created in the original process is steam, which a condensing boiler is able to extract the “latent heat” from and turn it back into liquid water. The efficiency gains realized from this process can be as high as 12%. Boiler efficiency as with much of our fuel burning technologies today is becoming better and better through the applied use of current technologies and we’re all the better for these gains.
